The Dover International Speedway opened in 1969 and Richard Petty won the first event, a NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race. It wasn’t long before the track earned its famous nickname – the Monster Mile. In 1986 the track began an unbelievable 15 years of renovations and new construction that has made it a trophy in the NASCAR family of tracks. Another addition, the DuPont Monster Bridge, was completed in 2004. The one-of-a- kind glass enclosed seating structure extends fully over turn 3 and gives fans the most exciting seats of any track in the US, as cars fly under them at top speed.
Racing runs deep in the roots of Dover, and 250,000 fans from Dover and all over the world flock to the city every race weekend. In addition to several NASCAR events throughout the year, the track is host to the Craftsman Truck Series, Demolition Derbies, Car Shows, and much more. The Speedway also offers race fans the opportunity to get behind they wheel and take a turn on the track at the Monster Driving School. Admission prices vary according to events, but general admission to a NASCAR race will generally start at $25 for adults. They offer a variety of packages from, 3 day admission to their special Hospitality Packages which include preferred seating, hospitality tent, trackside tour and catered menu. They also offer group packages to suit any need.
The Speedway introduced the ‘Velocity’ in 2007. This luxury suite will transform any race fan’s weekend into a dream come true. The luxury weekend package includes access to all races, premium view of the track, pre-race pit and race activities, an exclusive pit and garage tour, unlimited food and beverage options, appearances by NASCAR drivers, premium parking and many other luxury amenities. The price for this dream package is $1,200 but the memories it gives will last a lifetime.
There are several options for campers and RV’s with many options available. The first come basic lots are $60 per site. Lot 2 offers reserved sites, with 2 three-day race tickets included in the price of $130. The Speedway has designated lots for patrons with disabilities starting at $60 for general camping and $130 for reserved sites.
Drag Strip fans aren’t forgotten with the US 13 Dragway nearby. The ¼ mile drag strip is located in the Delaware Motorsports Complex. The complex hosts many NHRA, RAM, Outlaw, ET Racing, JR Dragster, Modifieds, Pro Bikes and US 13KART events throughout the year. Admission fees vary according to each event, with general admission starting at $20.00.
