Yeti Thaw
Last winter, there was a winter in Moab. Moab had not experienced one of this caliber since 1976. The Yeti Thaw, usually on for Presidents’ Weekend in February saw inclement weather in 2010, until it affect the event for 2011. Ride a Yeti bike demo, enjoy group rides, parties and the vibrant fellowship of three Moab mountain bike businesses: Magpie Adventure, Poison Spider Bicycles and Rim Tours. It is a free event and the perfect spring bash.

Skinny Tire Festival
Road cycling spans three days, riding through Arches National Park, along the Colorado River and to Dead Horse Point State Park, which peers into the vast emptiness of preserved Canyonlands National Park. The Skinny Tire Festival benefits cancer survivor programs.

Adventure Xtreme
Adventure racing by Gravity Play opens registration January 3, 2011. It is a mix of athletic disciplines: flatwater inflatable kayak, mountain bike, hike, rappel and navigation. The mountain bike section is particularly challenging in Long Canyon.

Gran Fondo
Riding the mountain pass in the La Sal Mountains, climbing 5500 feet in 60 miles, this event will emulate an old Italian tradition. Road cyclists experience breath taking views of canyons below and 12,000 foot peak above. Gran Fondo is NOT a race. The top five riders for men and for women will be recognized for reaching the top of the pass. There are NO PRIZES for returning to town in record time. Safety must be respected.

Moab Triathlon is NEW for 2011
TriUtah bases this two day event out of the Ken’s Lake area south of Moab. XTERRA off-road triathlon, XTERRA trail run, road triathlon and kid triathlon.

Rockwell Relay
The Rockwell Relay is a road cycling race where teams consisting of 4 cyclists take to the road in relay format and race to the finish non-stop. Starts in June in Moab to conclude in St. George.

OuterBike

24 Hour of Moab Bike Race
A temporary citadel flourishes in the Moab desert as teams converge to pour strength into a round the clock mountain bike race. Xavier Fane documents this race. Particularly interesting are the night shots. If you do not race, think about volunteering for this event.

Moab Ho Down
It is a mountain bike festival during Halloween weekend. Get your costume, bring all of your bikes. Dirt Jump, Downhill race, do a townie tour, bring your trick bike, plan to watch the second annual Moab Mountain Bike Film Festival collection, and gobble up hot peppers, this event is sponsored by Chile Pepper Bikes.
